I don't believe it!! I am not having a Victor Meldrew moment, I just can't believe it! It's amazing - this year 2009 is Detling X. It is 10 years and we are still going strong and in some ways the programme this year is one of the most interesting, original and exciting that we have ever had. There has been a complete revamp of how we do the Bible readings etc. and you will find out more about this as the time gets nearer. Those who are coming to speak are really up for our theme:
'Nothing is Impossible'
I guess that's one of the things that I want to say about this last 9 years; if it were not for the fact that we are serving a God with whom nothing is impossible then none of this would have happened. But it is not just down to us as the team at the centre; it is actually down to hundreds of volunteers who every year have made the Detling Conference possible. They have become part of our team; they work alongside those of us in leadership, they help us, they enable us to do what we do and without the volunteers nothing would happen.
So I want to ask you right at the beginning - Will you volunteer this year to be a helper at Detling? There are so many things that you can do. We need stewards to enable people to move safely from one place to another, to be cared for in their venues. We need children's workers who can work out what Jesus said about allowing the little children to come to Him. What could be a better way of spending a week of your summer? We need security people to help us out, especially during the night-times; people who are prepared to watch over the safety of the people of God. We need helpers in the office and volunteers on the gates, helping us to process every visitor to help them feel that they are truly welcome. So what about it? Will you volunteer? Get in touch with us right now. We would love to hear from you.
If you are sitting there thinking but I just can't do that, remember the theme - with God, Nothing is Impossible. The Angel Gabriel said it to Mary in His announcement to her that she would carry the Christ of God. Nothing is Impossible with God. But he was not actually referring to the coming of Jesus. What he was referring to was the fact that Elizabeth, in her old age had conceived a son to a reluctant hero called Zechariah who had lost his faith and lost his ability to believe God and yet God used him. With God, Nothing is Impossible.
Think about it; turn that phrase on its head. It means the one thing that is impossible for God is nothing. He is the God of fullness, He is the God of creativity, and He is the God who is always doing something. He is so full of life; Nothing is Impossible. He just cannot to nothing. But of course think about it in the way that we usually do and it means that there are no limits. If literally Nothing is Impossible then we have to ask ourselves the question 'what would you do for God if you knew you could not possibly fail?'.
Take a look at God's charge to Joshua in Joshua Chapter 1. He says to him if you will listen to the word of God, if you will repeat the word of God to yourself on a daily basis then you will have success wherever you go. Do we take those promises seriously? My guess is we don't and yet they are vital if we are going to make an impact on our society, if we are going to change the way that people think and act.
The present credit crunch is a moment for the Body of Christ to rise up and demonstrate that though the world may be in a season of recession, we, the people of the Kingdom of Heaven are living in another season and God has appointed us to be bearers of miracles for the world around.
So, whether you are old like Elizabeth and Zechariah who felt past it, or young like Mary with all the potential of life ahead of you, the key is the same for both; if you are going to achieve all that God has dreamed for you, then you have to claim the words with God - Nothing is Impossible.
That's what we do here at Revival Fire Conferences, which we have now decided to rename People without Limits. This new charitable company needs partners, people who will pray and give. The wierd thing is that in these days when finances are tight for everbody, we are not looking for people who give huge amounts. But what we are looking for is a large number of people who would be willing to partner with us for just £2.50 a month. We already have some great partners who give on a regular basis and they have enabled us to survive through the years. But what we now need to do is to seize the moment and move forward. So we are looking for a new army of partners. Please think about joining us and contact me at People without Limits. I look forward to hearing from you.
Have a great 2009 and remember with God, Nothing is Impossible.
Just two or three years ago Irene a young girl of around 9 years old was orphaned and left abandoned when both of her parents were brutally murdered by rebels in northern Uganda. On Tuesday 25th November she joined with her friends of the Destiny Africa Choir to sing for the Prime Minister and Sarah Brown at 10 Downing Street.
She said through her friend "I am now the happiest girl in the world"
Irene is now safe and cared for at Arnold Muwonge's Kampala Children's Centre. With God nothing is impossible!
